Equipment
I switched to the Nikon Z mirrorless system in the fall of 2022 after an accidental drop damaged my well-used D850 body (tip: never store or travel with a long lens attached to your camera!). The camera I currently use is the Nikon z7ii which is great for shooting landscapes and ok for wildlife as it lacks the higher functioning autofocus of the Z9. I have spent a lot of my recent time photographing birds utilizing the Nikkor Z 400mm f/4.5 VR 2 with the Z teleconverter TC-1.4x. I own the Z teleconverter TC-2.0x but rarely use it. My other “go-to” lens in the Z family is the Nikkor Z Macro 105mm f/2.8 VR S. I also own a variety of Nikkor F mount lenses that I utilize with the FTZ II mount adapter. I plan to purchase a Z9 or Z8 this year most likely acquire another mid-focal length zoom for landscapes and possibly a longer telephoto zoom. I am a big believer in shooting the camera and lenses you understand and are comfortable with. Fun fact; my first camera was a Kodak Disc 4000 camera that featured a 10x8mm negative.
